The label for a blend that goes on press on the 24th, and the two empty fields keeping it off. Everything drawn is finished; what is missing is in the product record, and nothing here fills a blank in with something plausible.

The product record has no origin and no ingredients line. The label is not typeset with a guess; the two fields are waiting on somebody.

The label

Drawn at 60 × 90 mm, the size it prints. The two lines reading “not provided” are printing exactly what the record holds.

What the gate found

Run on the server by the same function the review editor runs on every keystroke. Neither of these is a drawing problem.

  • Every field the surface requires· ingredients and origin are empty on the product recordContents, net quantity, origin, importer and the storage line are required by law on a food label. A missing field is not a design note, it is a recall.
  • Licensed for where it is going· Dock Mono is licensed for screen, and this is packagingA typeface licensed for the web is not licensed for a printed poster, and a stock photograph bought for social use is not cleared for packaging. The licence is checked before the file goes anywhere, not after.

The licence one is worth the minute it takes to read. Dock Mono is where the batch number is set and the brand book bought it for screen; this is packaging. The answer is a face swap or an invoice, and it is cheaper to know now than after a run of twelve thousand.

Every field the label must carry

Set from the product record and the company brain, never typed into the artwork. Where a field is empty the label stops, and the empty field has somebody's initials against it.

The owner said in the thread on the 11th what both values are — two lots from Huila and one from Antigua, and one word for the ingredients. Saying it in a thread is not the same as putting it in the record, and the label is set from the record. That is the whole distance between a studio that stops and one that guesses.

What the printer asks of a file

The arithmetic of putting ink on paper. Every row passes, and has since the 10th — what is holding this job is a record and a licence, not a drawing.

Printer
CheckWhat was foundState
Resolution at the laid-out size300 dpi at 60 × 90 mm, and the press wants 300Pass
Bleed past the trim3 mm on every edge. The ground runs past the cut, so a knife a millimetre out does not leave a white hairline.Pass
Colour spaceCMYK, built that way rather than converted on the way out. A late conversion is where a brand green turns grey.Pass
Smallest type on the label6.5 pt, and the floor for this stock is 6 pt. Below it the ingredients line closes up and the label stops doing its job.Pass
The mark's size and clear spaceThe wordmark is set across 24 mm of a 60 mm label, above the 18 mm floor, with a full cap height clear on every side.Pass

Checked, never print-ready

Printer

Checked, never print-ready. Resolution, bleed, colour space, minimum type and the mark's geometry are arithmetic, and Omni checks them. Colour on paper is not arithmetic: a screen cannot prove a press. The file goes to the printer marked checked, the printer pulls a proof, and a person in the building signs the proof. That signature is not on this screen and is not meant to be.

6 of 7 ready to set

The trade spread, laid out from the same record as the label. A row is only ready when every field the spread carries has a value.

6 of the 7 wholesale entries can be set today. The one that cannot is Autumn Blend, and the reason is not in these columns: the spread carries an origin for every product and the record does not hold one. The row looks complete and it is not.

Both of the things holding this job have a person's name against them — two fields in a record and a typeface licence. Neither is a rendering problem, and neither is something Omni is allowed to solve on its own.
